Elizabeth Broad, Platte Clove, linoleum block print, 6″ x 4″
Broad notes “During a landscape painting workshop in 2006, I discovered Platte Clove and this particular waterfall. I remember being thrilled by its energy—the sight of it and its sound—and feeling an urgency and excitement in drawing page after page in my sketchbook. Over the years I have revisited Platte Clove in my sketchbook and in person. It has served as subject for a watercolor painting, a series of monotypes, and several linoleum block prints — and I’m not through yet.”
Elizabeth Broad graduated with a degree in art history from Vassar. She worked in museums and galleries in Providence and New York City before pursuing a career as an art director in advertising. In Manhattan, she studied at the School of Visual Arts and the Art Students League. In 2005, while living in Cold Spring, she began taking classes at the Woodstock School of Art and, in 2009, moved to Woodstock. Elizabeth shows her work at the Woodstock School of Art, the Woodstock Artists Association Museum and other venues in the area. Her work can be found in private collections across the country. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Woodstock School of Art.
