Think Big: Encaustic, Photo & Mixed Media

This workshop is designed for those who have worked with encaustic already and are ready to transition their practice to a larger, more expansive scale. Students will work with their own digital image files, which will be printed by the instructor on large-format Japanese papers prior to the workshop. These specific papers are ideal for absorbing wax and maintaining clarity across a broad surface. We will explore the unique challenges and opportunities of working big, including techniques for recomposing and altering oversized images. We will be adding effects using a variety of materials; India ink, acrylic paint, watercolor, stained paper, encaustic paint, (as well as other mark making tools), while incorporating other collage appropriate materials; letters, prints, wall paper, old book pages, maps, drawings, etc.
