The Watercolor Figure

The Watercolor Figure is a course designed to provide the artist with techniques and context which they can use to enjoy painting the figure using watercolor.

For those that enjoy using the figure in their work, this course introduces to the artist the many possibilities for creativity and expression that the medium of watercolor can provide. Watercolor requires just a few simple materials to get started, is portable and easy to clean up. We’ll quickly cover a basic understanding of how color works, explore some techniques of drawing and composition and practice how watercolor and paper react to each other. From this simple introduction we’ll be ready to begin our journey into portraying the human figure from the live model starting with quick gestures and then progressing to longer poses. Finally we’ll explore some interesting creatively staged poses using props and drapery from Richard Segalman’s collection.
