The Figure Intensive: Mixed Media

$166.00

15 in stock

SKU: FIMM3 06/18/2023 Category: Classes and Workshops

Do you feel like you run out of time and never get to finish a painting in class? Do you want to further explore a particular idea in your craft? Have you always wanted to take a figure class with guided and understandable procedures in a low key, friendly and encouraging environment? Do you just want to draw and paint from observation? Do I have a workshop for you!

This workshop will take you through a set of instructions that will help you achieve an observational likeness of the figure. These steps will help you analyze and see forms, lines and shapes as they are and not as we sometimes think they are. When we draw and paint the figure our brain fools us into making marks that are not really there. We use images and symbols that we are familiar with, instead of using our natural ability for visual comparison.

When it comes to observational painting and drawing the artist needs time with the subject to develop a full piece of art. This workshop will give the experienced artist the time and opportunity to expand beyond the traditional class study. Students who want a more guided experience, can explore the given instruction in order to complete a figure drawing/painting.

Class will start with a 10 minute warm up of drawing exercises. After a quick break the model will take a pose for the rest of the session.

The workshop will cover:
Paper/canvas and materials set up
Sight measuring the subject and other compositional elements
Blocking in the structure
Analyzing and assigning values
Rendering and color.
While observational likeness will be stressed, individual creative expression that pushes beyond the academic copy is encouraged.
