For their exquisite beauty, variety and positive symbolism, sunflowers have been used as an artistic motif over centuries and across cultures. Native American artists, early on, depicted sunflowers, important for their seeds and used for yellow and purple dyes and pigmentation for pottery. Impressionists and modernists alike, from Monet to Van Gogh, Gauguin to O’Keeffe, among others, have expressed their beauty of form and color. This class will explore this inspiring subject as Robert shows and discusses ideas, methods to achieve effects, color and more for sparking our own creativity. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, you’ll be inspired as you learn about diverse approaches for painting this boundless subject. You may work in any drawing or painting medium. Robert will be working in pencil, pen and watercolor. You may choose to just watch or to sketch and paint along, step-by-step, with very popular instructor, Robert Carsten. In each of the two classes we will see examples and focus on a different approach, utilizing diverse techniques. Photos and a materials list will be provided via Dropbox, where participants can also share zoomclass work or optional homework for written critique. All levels welcome.
