Simplifying the Landscape Workshops help painters navigate the visual pitfalls and stumbling blocks that can make painting on location overwhelming. This workshop was designed to help artists simplify their approach to landscape painting, and learn the practical aspects of painting in the field.

For three days, a group of artists meet at a bucolic, private location to capture the essence of place creating meaningful sketch book entries by using a system of visual interpretation using three values and three main shapes to achieve the greatest visual impact in whichever medium they choose. Frequent discussions about design, composition, color and intention keep the class lively and informative.

In this plein air painting class, artists experience some of the most magnificent views in the Catskill Mountains and Hudson Valley, and will work in a collegial environment with demonstrations, easel critiques and personalized attention. This is an outdoor class, please dress accordingly.

Monday – Wednesday, June 19, 20, and 21, 2023
