Painting the Fall Still Life

Celebrate the beauty of Fall through painting a still life which will feature gourds, pumpkins and other elements from a fall harvest. This subject matter provides endless variety of forms and colors, as well as delicate textures, challenge every aspect of the painter’s art. This workshop will introduce students to the fundamental perceptions and skills required to successfully capture these seasonal subjects.

Each day will begin with a short demonstration by John. He will discuss strategies for drawing convincing forms and painting the subtle color-value relationships required to express the light and atmosphere of the arrangement in space. Students will then paint from a fresh fall arrangement with John providing focused individual instruction. Finally we will spend time discussing broader themes of effective arrangements for strong pictorial compositions.
