Create a series of monotypes and monoprints during this 4-week online course. Bring your drawings and visual ideas.

We will explore the possibilities of working with water-based inks, markers, and crayons. Using a thin Gum Arabic coating on a slightly frosted transparent surface the image can be painted or rolled from light to dark or dark to light. Create exotic reticulating washes, blends, resists, and expressive brush strokes. Often, by staying with the same plate and reactivating the ghost image, amazing second pulls will result. New techniques will be presented that will inform your future prints. Enjoy! This workshop will fulfill beginners to advanced printmakers.

Week 1: Create backgrounds and patterns – Pour, blot, and paint water-based speed ball inks to create seductive atmospheres.

Week 2: Key Plates – Drypoints – use an etching needle to incise imagery onto plexiglass, ink and transfer.

Week 3: Print from Xerox copy – Dampen a xerox copy with water, then roll with oil-based ink onto the toned area and transfer to your print paper. This immediate technique will allow you to make photos come alive on your artwork.

Week 4: Complete your finished print series using stencil transfers and collage.

Beginning, intermediate and advanced students will get a plethora of ideas and knowledge from this course both technically and aesthetically. The class homework critiques will encourage students to extend their knowledge of printmaking, The shared atmosphere will enliven and inform their new artwork.
