Introduction to Direct Carving in Wood

$346.00

7 in stock

SKU: IDCW 3/22/2023 - 2/24/2023 Category: Classes and Workshops

This class is for both those who have never carved before and those with carving experience who would like to learn about direct carving. The workshop will teach students to carve wood using a hammer and chisels…the same tools that have served carvers through the centuries. Students will learn to create sculpture, whether figurative or abstract, by carving directly into wood without the use of models or maquettes. The workshop will include instruction on how the natural properties of the wood can and should influence the process of the work.

Topics covered will include:
How to carve with the grain of the wood
How to work around knots and cracks
How to properly sharpen chisels

Wednesday – Friday, March 22, 23 and 24, 2023
