This class will take you through the journey of making a fine art print. Starting with a key image, the student will learn to create and build upon it to explore their creative concepts with the beginning image.
Week 1: Searching out and Creating a Key Image – The type of inks that can be used from Waterbase to Soapbase to Oilbase inks. Also proper clean-up will be explained.
Week 2: Exploring the Matrix/Key Image – Topics can include variations from smooth to rough surfaces, building a collagraph, drypoint, stencil (both movable and stationary), printing from a xerox copy-lithostyle.
Week 3: Chine Collé – Gluing through the press and Collage techniques.
Week 4: Multiplate Monotype/Monoprint – Image overlays and registration techniques.
Beginning, intermediate and advanced students will get a plethora of ideas and knowledge from this course both technically and aesthetically. The class homework critiques will encourage students to extend their knowledge of printmaking, The shared atmosphere will enliven and inform their new artwork.
