Foundations in Printmaking is a weekly studio course that introduces (or re-introduces) participants to a variety of beginning and intermediate printmaking techniques. Each week, there will be a focus on one of the following printmaking techniques: Monotype, Trace Monotype, Movable Collagraph, Traditional Collagraph, Lino and wood block relief, and pronto-plate lithography. In addition, we will cover broad techniques of color mixing, layering, chine collé, and working with different inks.
Students are encouraged to try an unfamiliar technique or continue working on projects and methods already started in the class.
Besides hands-on opportunities to create work using various printmaking techniques, students will gain an understanding of general procedures for handling materials, graphics studio practices, and safety protocols. We will have ongoing informal discussions about composition, motivation, presentation, and contemporary prints and printmakers.
