Anyone can learn to draw. It is the foundation of the visual arts, and drawing gets one to really notice the world “out there.” This workshop is for students with little or no experience drawing from life. Examples of locations can be anyplace, such as a studio, town, hiking trail, or even the waiting room of an office. Our workshop setting will be outdoors on the Woodstock School of Art campus. Having a sketchbook handy is a way of keeping a visual diary, which is a record of time, place, and response, as well as a marker of a student’s progress.
Workshop will consist of lectures on seeing, the use of line and value, form, working in black, white and color, examples of instructor work, demonstrations, question and answer period. Students will work outside the studio on campus for short term gesture sketching, and longer term drawing assignments with supervision and ample practice time.
Students can expect to come away from this course with new and expanded ideas about drawing, personal expression, and to cultivate the habit of carrying a sketchbook in their daily lives.
Beginner and intermediate skill levels. Ages 12+
