The two main focuses of this class are: (1) having discussions about composition by studying European masters such as Titian, Vermeer and Cezanne and comparing them to modern works of art. And (2) encouraging students to toggle between playful experimentation and careful study of composition. Students may create a collection of papers by painting loosely with acrylics using palette knives, sponges and traditional brushes. They can then cut up their painted papers and begin rearranging them in order to study composition. As we dig deeper, we will discuss methods of creating a sense of movement, excitement, and energy in the students’ work. Students may choose to expand on these concepts, moving on to mixed media and working with a variety of materials on wood panels. A free exchange of ideas, exploration and discovery is the goal in this casual and supportive work environment.
PLEASE NOTE -This is an excellent class for printmakers who wish to utilize their extra prints by cutting up and repurposing them.
