Carol Zaloom is an artist and illustrator who works mainly in handcolored linoleum prints. Her clients include Random House, David Godine, HarperCollins, Yankee magazine, Sky & Telescope, and the New York City Parks Department, among others. Her studio is located in a stone-and-timber house built in 1852; in the 1930s, it was home to a WPA muralist, and in 2008 it received historic landmark status from the town of Saugerties. In addition to her linocuts—inspired by mythological creatures, fairy tales, literature, and Catskills flora and fauna—she also creates monotypes that celebrate the Paleolithic cave painters, and painted baseballs featuring literary and mythical themes, several of which have been commissioned by the Director of Research at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
