Opal is a nonbinary artist, printmaker, photographer, collaborator, and educator. They have a deep love of process and specialize in using their accumulated material knowledge from across many disciplines help artist solve unique and challenging problems.
They trained as a printmaker from the age of 14, and graduated Cum Laude from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a degree in Printmaking. They received their MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale in 2022. They worked as a collaborative printer and studio manager at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking for 6 years, and have recently designed and taught graduate courses at both Yale and Risd.
They have exhibited at the International Print Center of New York, Jeffrey Deitch Gallery, The Westmoreland Museum of Art, and completed residencies at Atelier Circulaire in Montreal, QC, and at the Ateliers im Alten Schlachthof, Sigmaringen, Germany. They recently published a book of etchings with Edition Schwarze Seite in Germany and public art commissions at Artspace New Haven and Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
