ABOUT THIS COURSE:
Explore the painterly qualities of two printmaking processes: Silk Aquatint and Monotype. Artist Julio Valdez will guide participants through the unique textural possibilities of one of his signature techniques, Silk Aquatint, then combine those prints with Monotypes for deep layering and creative results. This class will be using low-toxicity Akua Kolor and Akua Intaglio water-based soy inks for a mostly non-toxic printmaking experience.
Key Terms:
Silk Aquatint is a non-acid method of producing a variety of tones and textures similar to those created with traditional acidic Aquatint printmaking. The artist’s image is rendered by painting with a whitened acrylic medium on a black silk surface backed with plastic.
Monotype is an infinitely variable form of printmaking that produces a single (mono) unique print. Artists apply thin layers of ink to a plexiglass plate, manipulate it in different ways, and run it through the press to obtain one true impression on paper.
Suitable for all levels, no experience necessary! Ages 19+

- Please note that for workshops lasting all day there is a one-hour break from 12PM to 1PM. Students are invited to bring lunch and eat at the school or may go to any of the local dining establishments. The school does not provide lunch or refreshments.
