ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:
Become competent in accurate planning your multilayered silkscreen images with hand-drawn and custom cutout stencils. Learn how to properly register your prints using registration tabs in order to produce a perfect print edition. Split fountain techniques will be introduced during the workshop along with the transparencies. During this workshop students will create a professional edition of prints.
Student will learn:
● Proper registration tab system and professional printing.
● Split fountain and transparency methods.
● Hand-drawn imagery and custom cutouts.
● Proper screen degreasing, screen coating and exposure.
No previous silkscreen printing experience necessary. Best suited for beginner and intermediate level students. Ages 16+

*All students will be provided with used screens to use during the workshop. If you would like to purchase a screen through Woodstock School of Art, please email registrar@woodstockschoolofart.org at least 2 weeks prior to the workshop so that we can prepare a screen for you. Each screen costs $48.

Please note that for workshops lasting all day there is a one-hour break from 12:00 – 1:00 PM. Students are invited to bring lunch and eat at the school or may go to any of the local dining establishments. The school does not provide lunch or refreshments.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Malgorzata Oakes is a Polish born artist, for the past twenty years she has been residing in Hudson Valley New York. She holds a Ph.D. from the Scientific Interdisciplinary Program in the
Arts from the Doctoral School of the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art & Design in Wrocław, Poland. Oakes obtained her MFA at the Eugeniusz Geppert Academy of Art & Design in
Wrocław in Printmaking in 2001.
Her prints, drawings and paper installations have been exhibited in more than 100 exhibitions in museums, galleries and printshops worldwide. Oakes’ work has been exhibited in Mini Maxi
Print Berlin 2020 as well as MTG – Kraków 2021. Among her many accomplishments, Oakes has received a Full Fellowship Award from the Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts in
2021. She has been selected for numerous artist residencies, including Collective Research Residency as well as Artist Residency at Frans Masereel Centrum, Non-toxic Electro-etching
Workshop Residency with Alfonso Crujera, and Zea Mays Printmaking Residency where she has been awarded a scholarship.
She is an active educator, papermaker and professional printmaker, involved in various interdisciplinary collaborative projects with her students and colleagues. Her work speaks to the
sustainable mission of the arts. She travels to share her research focused on non-toxic electro-etching innovative processes within the United States and Europe. Her latest research
has been published in Printmaking Today in 2021. Malgorzata currently teaches at Marist College, State University of New York, New Paltz; Woodstock School of Art and Women’s
Studio Workshop.
