Plein Air Pastel – June

Workshop

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:

This two-day workshop begins with a discussion of materials, including soft pastel choices, paper samples and details of storing and framing pastels. Methods and various tools used will also be discussed. Frequent demos, group exercises and individual instruction. This workshop emphasizes balance and values to describe the rich spring landscape of showy gardens, a quiet pond, and the magnificent backdrop of the Shawangunk Ridge. Possible excursion to High Falls planned. From initial sketches, to under-painting with pastels, to a completed work, looking as part of process is stressed.

Plein-air, weather permitting (In case of bad weather bring a photograph to work from.)

Suitable for all levels. Overnight accommodations available.

In an effort to maintain our non-toxic environment, the Woodstock School of Art does not permit the use of turpentine or mineral spirits in the painting studios. Additionally,  Learn more. 

Those with special needs and/or requests may email the registrar.

Please note that for workshops lasting all day there is a one-hour break from twelve noon to one PM. Students are invited to bring lunch and eat at the school or may go to any of the local dining establishments. The school does not provide lunch or refreshments.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Marlene Wiedenbaum, PSA-MP is an award-winning Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and Master Pastelist, and is currently an elected member of the PSA Board of Governors. Her work is in private and public collections throughout the country and is represented in the tri-state area.
