ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP:
This workshop is best suited for those who have worked with encaustic already, or are at least somewhat familiar with the process. Students will work with their own digital image files that will be printed by the instructor on Japanese papers before the workshop. The specific papers that we will use are excellent for absorbing wax. We will explore options for recomposing images, altering images, and adding effects using a variety of materials; india ink, acrylic paint, watercolor, stained paper, encaustic paint, (as well as other mark making tools), while incorporating other collage appropriate materials; letters, prints, wall paper, old book pages, maps, drawings, etc.
Students will each have two sheets of digitally printed images. The print area for each sheet is 22”x 36” maximum. Any combination of images (up to six images per sheet) to be determined by the students and submitted for printing before the workshop begins. Students will need to bring a few panels coated with encaustic gesso or a similar appropriate surface for encaustic paint (see supply list below).
Participants will be contacted by the instructor with image preparation instructions. Digital files will be need to be submitted several weeks before the workshop. Images will be due no later than September 1, email images to kingwaynes@aol.com.
