ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

Genre Painting is a kind of figurative painting that depicts ordinary people engaged in common activities. Their gestures and facial expressions work together with the setting to create a story that the viewer can relate to. In this workshop, after reviewing genre painting examples from art history, Woolley will create a genre scene with the posed model occupied in a task.

DAY 1:

9:00-10:00 Powerpoint presentation of Genre Painting’s role in art history, and a brief video demonstration of Woolley beginning a genre painting. My monitor will pose the model and setting (all pre-planned) during this time.

10:00-12:00 Students will get their easel spots and start their painting.

12:00-1:00 LUNCH

1:00 – 4:00 Continued painting with easel to easel instruction. Time at end of class for review.
