Studio Class
ABOUT THIS CLASS:
Pronto-plate lithography affords the artist the opportunity to make images using traditional drawing techniques and media as well as using photographs. Printmaking with Pronto-plates has the advantage of being a more user friendly, accessible, and safe method of lithography. Initially designed as a cheaper alternative to aluminum plate offset litho in commercial printing, it has now been embraced by the fine art printmaking community.
In this 4 week Pronto-plate Lithography class, we will investigate direct mark-making with various drawing media and transferring photographic images to the Pronto plate. Inking, over-printing techniques, and paper varieties will be explored in the creation of unique, personal images. In addition, students will gain an understanding of general printmaking procedures, graphics studio practices, and safety protocols. Students will be encouraged to participate in ongoing discussions about composition, formal and conceptual elements/ideas, motivation, presentation, and contemporary prints and printmakers.
No prior printmaking experience necessary, but a commitment to artistic exploration is required. Ages 16 +
