Foundations in Oil Painting

Studio Class

ABOUT THIS CLASS:

Foundations in Oil Painting will start with a general overview of materials and tools. Classes will have a balance of lecture, demonstration, and painting. Students will choose a still life that has been set up before class and begin with a value study. I will use a series of exercises for students to learn basic painting techniques while having fun painting. There will of course be lots of one on one at the easel as I go around the room. My goal is to have a relaxed environment where students feel free to ask questions and feel supported. I want students to gain the knowledge in this class so they can set up a studio at home and make their own work. I look forward to helping everyone along their painting journey.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Cristeen Games was born Bath, New York and grew up on a dairy farm, along with her three brothers. She studied with Albert Alexio while in her junior year of high school. Alexio introduced her to oil painting and encouraged her to become a painter. She moved to Woodstock in 1980 to study with Frank Alexander, one of the founders of the Woodstock School of Art, and also studied with Nick Buhalis there. Cris has received the Lucille Blanch Award several times and the Sally Phoebe Towbin Annual Prize in 1995. In 1998, Cris had her first of many solo shows at the WFG in Woodstock, where she developed a strong following for her paintings.  She has been in many group shows at the Woodstock Artist Association, where she ran the opening drawing sessions for 12 years, as well as other local galleries: Carrie Haddad Gallery, Wired Gallery, WFG, Kleinert/James Art Center. She has also been represented in galleries in the North East and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
