“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” – Pablo Picasso
“A person’s work is nothing but this slow trek to rediscover, through the detours of art, those two or three great and simple images in whose presence their heart first opened.” A. Camus
In this class we will work on our skills of observation, sculpting the figure from direct observation of a live model. Put simply, that means learning how to look at what you are sculpting and to sculpt what you are looking at. That sounds really obvious but it is the most common mistake made by art students. Sometimes consciously and very often unconsciously we start to sculpt ideas about what we are looking at instead of what we are actually looking at. It is a very relaxed and fun process. All students receive individualized attention according to their personal needs and skill level. In addition you will learn basic hand building techniques for clay and how to measure proportions in head lengths.
Maximum of 7 students.
Suitable for all levels; no experience necessary! Ages 12+.
