ABOUT THIS CLASS
If you have ever had the urge to paint, but didn’t find the time or where withal to start, this is the class for you. Are your heroes Vincent Van Gogh, Gaugin and Matisse? Do you want to grow as an artist? Come explore and cultivate your individual creative voice and become a modern composer of color, structure and meaningfulness.
Beginning with color theory lessons using Color-Aid paper, this ongoing class naturally guides you into oil painting. The interaction of color is emphasized to create dynamic tension and form. Based loosely on post-impressionist traditions, you will become visually literate by learning how to see space and shape to create strong compositions.
- L. McKenna’s teaching style is reassuring and open ended, tailored to your own process and progress. You will learn to see through drawing with charcoal pencil and / or oil paint. Diverse styles and techniques range from direct observation of life to art driven by abstract ideas in a supportive environment. No previous experience required.
COLOR – The student begins by solving a set number of color problems with Color-Aid paper. Once these problems are solved, the student has a keen awareness how color interacts visually. The student is then ready to move into oil paint on canvas or board.
DRAWING – The student begins with line drawing on paper to really analyze what they are actually looking at. The student learns how to determine flat pattern and composition.
PAINTING – The student applies their visual knowledge to canvas or board and begins to compose in oil paint with line, shape, space and color.
