ABOUT THIS CLASS
Ages 12 & up
Students in the Children’s Art class will be encouraged to dig deep into their own interests and strengths while learning new techniques. Instruction and demonstration will enhance children’s skills, knowledge and self esteem. Projects will include but are not limited to painting, wood sculpture, found object art, photography, storybook making and stencil design. Starting with basic techniques will help each student to grow their skills and find their own style. Working individually most days will allow students to gain discipline and an understanding of how daily practice will enhance their work. Small group activities and discussions can also open up new ways of thinking and creating. The social benefits for these students will develop over time spent with other artists with similar interests. Trust comes with respecting each artists space, work and style. Taking time to admire other artists work will give opportunities to ask questions and bond over the love of art.
Finding your own style can take a lifetime, some artists find it quicker than others. Melanie believes that each student has a unique style for learning, creating and expressing themselves. Her deep commitment to working with youth has led her here to share time and space with students who also have a desire to make art and explore new possibilities.
Given the time and encouragement to keep going will allow each student to grow and find what medium speaks most to them. Here in this course we will explore a variety of materials and study other artists whom we admire and discover new ways of doing things. This course is for artists 12 and up who are looking to expand what they already know and learn new techniques and styles of art. Lab fee applies.
